I haven't started posting videos on youtube yet, except one I made for my regular blog about a year ago, but hope to start making some this summer.
Anyway, I am curious about the Director's accounts that youtube offers. I don't see any huge advantages it offers, but was going to register for one anyway until i saw that you are supposed to have liscense for everything you post. I really am not interested in writing record labels to ask permission to use songs in my videos, and think that would be ridiculous. Same goes for using clips of video and so forth. But I've noticed that people with director's accounts aren't really keeping to the guidelines. (I don't think...maybe they are getting usage licenses, but I'm doubtful of that.)
So can someone fill me in on this, or atleast give their opinions on the matter?
Whats the advantage of having a Director account, and what are the legal concerns associated with that?

I dont even know why i did it because i have no use for it but as far as i know the only REAL benefit is that you can go over 10 minutes, and i guess if you have a website its good for that too...but i dno about legal business, but no way they are checking all of that

No one can go above the 100MB limit director or not! But you can have a vid as long as you want if the file size is less than 100MB. You're not still trying to get around this are you spidey?

also if your worried about licenses...if you go to www.revver.com/music there is a bunch of links....these links lead you to sites with unliscensed material you can downlod and use in your videos....there called "Creative Commons" sites and you can't get in trouble for using the music on there because its not liscensed....hope this helps at all... Well, AFAIK... none of us are allowed to use any copyrighted material, director or no director. Directors can not only surpass the ten minute limit, but the videos of popular directors are advertised randomly on the YouTube site on the right or the top. And thanks a bunch, mattpyrch, I'd been looking for a site like the one you posted. (=

Your allowed a director logo, a URL, your own little picture that goes underneath your username. As others have said, 10 minute videos+ are allowed. Directors are pretty much just members that actually care about posting videos, and want more flexibility and perhaps more populatiry as-well when it comes to their account.
