So my groggy room mate informs me that the bill finnally got to congress about pirated movies and what have you.. He says YouTube is likely to be shut down because of their lack of 'tight-reining' on their uploaded content. He also mentioned that I might be getting a bill from Shaw because in the past I have DL-ed stuff.. and then admitted that it shouldn't be retroactive. -_- git. So, If this ner neutrality bill passes we could very well get stopped. I was wondering how people feel or want to comment on that and more importantly--if anyone has any more information or has heared anything. Could a Canadian or British or Hungarian or w/e baced website still operate 'VLOG's So long as they're baced out of and on a NON-US website? (Hosted in a different country.) Personally I love the home made music videos.. I think they're imaginative and amusing.. It would make me sad if they were to go.. But I guess who ever suied.. er.. took YouTube to court would have to do it compleetly and either YouTube would have to shut down or they would have to alter their content ALOT... I'd prefure the ALOT option because we might still be able to have 'VLOG's maybe.. He said My Space might also have some issues comming it's way because of .. what was it.. .. something about old men and young girls or something to that affect.. XP yucky. Links to websites that know what this is and what not would be appreciated. The 'internet revolution' will be the 'internet-closely-watched-and-doing-only-what-we-tell-you-to.'

I guess they can make it compulsory for all users making videos to sign up for a director account - I believe it's terms of use are a bit more enforceable?
I don't think the site will be shut down, just more tightly regulated so that copyrighted content is not broadcast. It's a shame really as many ppl will use songs or audio clips to enhance their videos (without permission) and will have to stop.

yeah. That's too bad.. Accept for the people who have their own theme songs.. which is sweet. *sigh* I'm concerned with what will happen. I might have to regress into .. the real world!! Do nothing but read books, go outside, and.. heaven forbid... go to the store and be social with people in real life.. *sniff* but buying stuff online is so convenient and you get a much broader selection!

The YouTube site is full of copywrited material, which it's users are uploading agaist the laws governing the state in which the site is hosted. Period. However, in our efforts to retain a "free" internet, be sure to check out www.savetheinternet.com/ and call your local representitive. For those of us outside of the US: Join MySpace and add "Save the Internet" as a buddy. MySpace friends do count in the list of individuals opposing the demolition of Net Neutrality. :3

I love AMV's (and other such music videos). I really don't see how they hurt anything, if anything they are just another way of fueling your interest in something. Like fanfic's. They actually promote whatever the hell is in them. Sure you can hear all of the song but i've discovered afew bands thanks to AMV's...
Using songs in the background of a video doesn't really harm anyone either. Besides we're talking over it anyway.
Ugh more reasons why I hate people.

The AMV's aren't the problem. Users are posting full episodes of television series on YouTube, along with portions of, or entire, hit films. YouTube has been used to pirate these things for some time now...

YouTube has been used to pirate these things for some time now... Yes. I don't think the industry cares too much about music videos. Because they promote the artists song and the networks TV show. Although that is a grey area. But I'm pretty sure it's okay to use 10-20 second bits of music you listen to in your videos. After all, these blogs are supposed to be about us and music is a huge part of my life and I should be able to post some videos with low quality, undownloadable, 10-20 parts of the music I like to emphasise the atmosphere of my video. If anything, it actually promotes music, and the industry makes even more money. People aren't listening to the radio like in the 90's. People are watching video blogs, and if they hear music they like, it sparks interest into a particular band. So I see nothing wrong with, and won't stop including background music in my videos. What's the point of having music if you can't really do anything with it?
